Responsibilities

The responsibility for paying for a wedding, traditionally, was met by the father of the Bride.  This is now no longer expected.  Many couples arrange and pay the costs of the wedding themselves or the cost is split between the families.

Below is a list of traditional wedding responsibilities, they are not always expected and nowadays these responsibilities and decisions are usually decided by both the Bride and Groom.

Bride

Choose and ask Bridesmaids and page boys
Select dresses for the Bridesmaids and herself
List wedding presents preferred

Bridegroom

Arrange Ceremony
Choose Best man
Arrange suitable attire for both himself and Best man
Order flowers for Bride, Bridesmaids and mothers
Arrange honeymoon
Arrange transport to and from the ceremony (church, register office etc.) Prepare Groom's speech and toast to the Bridesmaids

Brides Parents

Arrange printing and sending of invitations
Order wedding cake
Hire of photographer
Book and organize wedding reception, evening reception etc.
Father of the Bride speech

Bridesmaids

Choose dresses with the Bride
Help Bride get ready
Chief Bridesmaid takes charge of the Bride's flowers during the ceremony

Best man

On the day, ensure the Bridegroom is ready and at the church on time.
Look after the rings
Reply to "the Bridesmaids' toast "and make a speech!
